ROSIE BOSTEK
Glass
Rosie Bostek is a glass artist with a BFA from College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. Her primary focus is on flame-worked objects using a technique called networking. She started at College for Creative Studies as an advertising major which translates into her glass-work. Her work is meant to spread awareness about the effects of global warming and how humans negatively impact the planet. Her pieces have touched on arctic melting, extinction, oil spills, bee population, deforestation and many other current issues. She has shown her work across the country and hopes to show internationally in the near future.

Guilt is an emotion I focus on conveying in my body of work and each piece is geared towards bringing people’s attention to the negative effects humans have on the planet. The intent is for the viewer to feel responsible for the damage to our ecosystem after experiencing each piece. I utilize flameworked glass to create sizable, yet delicate, pieces that catch the eye and I often combine glass with living plants to put more emphasis on ideas associated with the destruction of natural life. Dramatization in my work is a large part of my making process, not only to increase shock value, but to express the severity of the message. I consider my body of work to be a public service announcement about climate change and I hope the viewer will think about how they can make changes in their lives to help save our planet after seeing my work.
