MONIQUE HOMAN
As designed objects and sculptural forms, my work provokes an interactive experience with the viewer that allows spontaneity, discovery, altered perception. My practice couples methodical experimentation with an intuitive attitude toward combining materials such as resin, rubber, silicon, films, to investigate interaction of light, color, gravity, and optics. I utilize various hands-on processes to investigate perceptual phenomenon through material experimentation.
Every material holds a perceived value, formed through the cultural history of its various uses and applications. My goal is to elevate synthetic materials through experimentation, artistry, and technical achievement, within the hierarchy of “craft materials”, challenging and reframing connotations and applications of plastics, resins, silicones, and more.
