ALEXIS BRATTO
Ceramics to me is an outlet to relax and create work that is aesthetically pleasing. My goal when creating is to never feel pressured to generate a concept or greater meaning but to purely enjoy the craft and the experiments that can be done.
My body of work has many different personalities. I find limiting myself to my own brand of work bores and discourages me, and find satisfaction in the freedom to experiment with numerous techniques, methods, forms, and scales.
My main source of inspiration is nature and the beauty of how people can integrate natural found objects into something greater. Vivid Tranquility is the zen garden recreated, but still using the same basic principles of rocks, sand, and moss. Just these simple natural found objects make for a meditative and very beautiful garden sanctuary.
When focusing on my functional pottery side, glaze experimentation is a huge part of my practice. Finding ways to make a simple yet useful form and making the surface something that catches the viewer’s eyes immediately. By layering numerous glazes and playing around with kiln programs, I can create beautiful drippings of glaze running down my pieces.
