CASSIDY KAUFMAN

Cassidy Kaufman started making jewelry as a child when her grandmother introduced her to the craft  by teaching her how to work with wire and beads to make earrings. In highschool she enrolled in a jewelry class where she instantly fell in love with the craft and decided to pursue a career in metalsmithing and jewelry design.

During her time at CCS Cassidy realized that she prefers to work on a larger scale,  creating forms through strikes of a hammer. Finding a passion for hollowware, she spent most of her time creating metal vessels before expanding her practice to include weaving, woodcarving, and blacksmithing as well.

CASSIDY KAUFMAN

I’ve spent countless hours walking among the trees, noting the way that plants grow and how the wind and water erode the earth. My inspiration is rooted in the forms created by nature herself. Using metalsmithing, weaving, and wood carving, I seek to emulate these forms through an intuitive design process, allowing the nature of my material to guide my decisions.

Though I typically start with some sort of direction, I am constantly finding new inspiration as each piece evolves, never sticking to a sketch as a blueprint. This evolution through process is what excites me about my craft. It's magical to watch each piece transform; when working by intuition every piece is a mystery. I never know where my process might take me.
