My name is Tedi Marie. Before I was able to talk, I had art. Being Autistic, I dove further into the art world because of my sensory and a curiosity of the various materials and mediums. In fear I wouldn’t be able to talk, she began to teach me how to sew when I was three years old. It wasn’t until I was five years old when my mom took me to a glass blowing shop where I got to see glassblowers create. At that point I couldn’t stop talking about it and I wanted to work in glass. As I got older, I was introduced to pottery, but it wasn’t until I came to College for Creative Studies where I was introduced to wood and metal. As a furniture major, I was able to explore the different departments' materials as well as explore other unconventional materials.

THEADOCIA JENSON
Being Autistic, I am driven to explore the materials for their looks as well as how they feel and how to manipulate them. Working with the various materials and mediums with my hands has given me a voice when my voice is nothing more than a white noise in the background. Being Autistic, I wasn’t able to speak until the age of five. My mom had taught me her craft as a form of art therapy to give me a form of communication. Eventually, I began to speak verbally, but I still wanted to make art. As I got older, I began to further explore the techniques and crafts passed down from the generations in my family and the modern techniques my family uses. With those traditional techniques and the various crafts I learned over the years, I eventually sought out connections between the various materials. From those connections, I could find ways to combine materials that would be considered odd to put together or treat unconventional materials as a typical material.
